Pet portraits are wonderful to paint.
When I paint them, I always begin with the eyes. I need to know where they’re looking. Not to say I can’t paint in a whisker or strand of fur in the same painting session, but the eyes need to be in place before I can go further. Some people like to take pictures of their pets as much as they like taking photos of their children. I like to take the best of these photos and use them as a model for a reverse painting on glass.
I paint in oils on the back side of glass. The side the painting is viewed from is opposite of the side of the glass that the paint is not on. So if the subject of the reverse painting on glass is facing left when I look at it, he will be facing right when you view him, as Dolce is in the painting above. The oils take time to dry, and I can not work on wet paint without making a mess, so, some of my paintings take months to accomplish.
These reverse paintings on glass are for sale, and I try not to be a difficult person to deal with. If interested in any of them, please leave a comment.continue reading
“Are You Alright?”
Wizard of Oz Paintings were one of the first if my subjects in reverse painting on glass.
My career in reverse painting on glass began in the land of Oz. Days after seeing the movie each year, I would have the nightmares about flying monkeys.
It wasn’t as though I ever even wanted to watch it, but I have 5 sisters, and there were those who either specialized in torture, or thought I would enjoy it.
The reverse paintings on glass on this page represent at least a year of my painting time. I was singing like a munchkin when I barely escaped.
How ever, I was fortunate enough to have married a man who understood. Rich can do all of the Scarecrow’s dances. He could also sing all of the cowardly lion’s songs. He knows this movie like no other! I was properly impressed!
I had no idea that because I never forced my children to watch it there was a void in their lives. Not thinking about it being a classic, I endured the pain alone.
Alas, live and learn. When the project was finished, I asked my youngest daughter if she had ever seen the movie. Her reply was that she didn’t need to. She could just look at the paintings.
Just for a little fun, I am throwing in some old western paintings. With television what it has become over the years, I no longer choose to participate in watching most of it. No one loves a good movie more than I do, but there just aren’t many of them.
What I enjoy is a movie that tells an interesting story. I have nothing against humor either. Yes, Throw a little bit of funny into that story.
Apparently the 2013 version of The Lone Ranger really flopped at the box office. I really did not understand why. Other than children between 15 and 18, the newer version could be enjoyed by anyone. And I only count out the younger people because they seem to be more interested in other things such as their cell phones. You can’t please every one, but comedy is comedy, and Johnny Depp nailed it!
This was not an old western painting, but many of the characters in it were from old westerns. Many people who have seen this reverse painting on glass have tried to identify the people in it. So far, only one lady got them all, and that was because my husband was standing next to me, as he stands next to Marilyn Monroe in the painting.continue reading
