    Searching

Searching could not have been a pleasant job either for the dog or the man in this reverse painting on glass, yet there they were, helping in this time of need.  I am amazed at the abilities of these service dogs and the people who work with them.  Not that there haven’t been incredibly intelligent dogs in my own life, but who could have guessed that dogs would be able to find survivors in debris lie this?  Or how about the countless belongings they turned up?

“Searching”  is the last of the 2001 September 11 reverse painting on glass that I expect to be writing about, not that it was the last in the series.  I think the writing about it was almost as exhausting as the painting of it.  As probably every other American, I survived as a stronger person.  Not because I was directly involved in the action of it, but because of the heartbreak of the losses we suffered as a country, and not knowing where loved ones were during this desperate time.  Let this be a lesson that we must all be more aware of what is going on around us, so these awful events do not occur again, here or in any other place.

    Cary The Flag

This is one of the few of my reverse painting on glass of the 2001 September 11 series that was not painted in a window sash. Maybe after 16 years this tragic event in history is not consuming me, and I may have said all I have to about that day. My husband tells me that even then, for over 20 years now, Bill O’Reilly has been broadcasting his No Spin Zone.  I wish I knew what he had to say about it.  You see, I didn’t become an O’Reilly fan until  five years ago or somewhere there about.  I work the afternoon shift, so one of my big questions when I would get home every night was “So what does Bill O’Reilly have to say today?”

Now, we have to go to the pod-cast to find out because the “ins” have gotten to, or possibly bought out Fox News, and I truly believe Fox will suffer from it.  Wouldn’t it be great if he started his own network and became even better than Fox?  Having caught bits and pieces, and watched the program on my days off, I know Megan Kelly, Hannity and a few more would be right there with him!

Or, may the ‘pod-cast’ is the up and coming thing, and Bill O’Reilly will be a leader in the field.  That would not surprise me either  No matter which way it goes, he will still maintain a strong following, and I will be part of it.

Anyway, back to my own business of reverse painting on glass.  Care to see more of my work?  Just click on

    Searching Through the Ashes

Painted in a three pane window sash of refinished pine, this reverse painting on glass is one of my 2001 September 11 series.  Please believe me when I say, it was not a fun or pleasant series to do, but one that I felt I had to do.  Yes, this particular event is over now, but should it be forgotten?  I don’t think so.  And where would one begin to. New York City I am sure was not the only place searching through the ashes.  Many good people answered the call on that fateful day.  In addition  to the first responders, the lives of the survivors of the victims have been forever changed.  It only took one late summer day for the face of the United States to change.  At one moment we thought we were somewhat at peace with the world, and the next, it was shattered.

Many of the terrorists who participated in this attack were trained for it right here in this country.  And still there are those who want to welcome anyone who decides they want to be here without knowing why.  It must be great to have your head in the clouds, but really?  If we as citizens of the United States don’t look into this, I am afraid we may be searching through the ashes again.

    Burning Towers

Another of the 2001 September 11 paintings, “Burning Towers” is a reverse painting on glass in a frame rather than a window sash.  I used reds and blues with the white to create what I hope to convey as a patriotic feeling for the U.S.  The colors are there to say, “Yes even through this terrible event, it is still our America.” and “This is still our land, no matter how you try to hurt us, we will persevere.”

Time has passed since 2001 September 11, and I hope that I am not alone in feeling pride in our country.  I am not the only one in town flying the re white and blue colors, and may it remain that way for centuries yet to come.  I firmly believe we are headed in the right direction with the outcome of the 2016 election of President Trump.  Even though I thought it might require several decades to right our economy after the past administration, my mind has been changed, and I feel so much more hopeful.  Butt there are those who would like to ignore our electorate system and put their own ‘preferred’ in place.  It doesn’t matter to them that this goes against what our country was founded on.  The unfortunate part is they at powerful enough to censor the voices they do not care to hear, such as that of Bill O’Reilly from Fox News.  I am not an extroverted person, don’t see too many people in the course of a day, but I know for a fact that I’m not the only one who misses his presence.

    Remembering NYCFD

Painted in a window sash, as this scene may have been seen by someone, is a reverse painting on glass titled  ‘Remembering NYCFD’.  It is one of my series on 2001 September 11.  I suppose you could say that this series of paintings commemorates a catastrophe, but I think of it now as the moment in time when Americans pulled together their resourses,  We now have a lasting reminder of what can happen when we let our guard down.  Children born since the year 2000 will have no memory of it of course, so it is up to us to never forget the occurrences of that dreadful day in history.  The widows and widowers left behind will remember 2001 September 11 and Remembering NYCFD for the rest of their lives.  So will the first responders who gave their all to find survivors and clean up the mess.  I, personally was here in central New York State at the time,  It was my day off from work.  I lived alone, and there never seemed to be a time when there wasn’t a lot to get done.  Every station on television was playing roughly the same broadcast of first the world trade center being hit, and then the Pentagon, and the news of the plane that went down in rural Pennsylvania.  All I could think was that it was the bombing of Pearl Harbor over again.  So much to do here, but so very unimportant in retrospect.  May this awful lesson in history never be forgotten.  To see more of my work like Remembering NYCFD, go to

    EMT Crew in Washington

As are some of my other 2001 September 11 paintings, this one was painted in a refinished window sash as it may have been viewed from inside a house or business place at the time of this tragic incident.  Through the haze of the smoke and still floating debris, the EMT Crew in Washington reverse painting on glass of 2001 September 11 can be seen pulling together to save what they are able to, and set right what they can in this overly stressful situation.

I don’t have a lot of words to say about 911, but I do still have tears.  No doubt that the men and women who are painted in this window will be haunted for the rest of their lives by it.

I did not even have the faintest plan of painting this awful time in American history until asked to by my son, who was at the Pentagon with the first responders and EMT crew in Washington at the time.  I was reluctant even then to paint the rape in progress.  But after I got started, I couldn’t stop until all of the pent up feelings had been brought to light in my reverse painting on glass.  After working each day, I come home to paint at night, and there wasn’t a one that I didn’t cry while painting in the 2001 September 11 series,  so, it’s safe to say that it isn’t about the money when you’re practicing  an art form, it is truly so much more about coming to terms and the passion involved in doing so.  It’s about conveying through abilities the things there are no words for, or any other way to make another person understand.

  • Night Fire

    Night Fire

“Night Fire” is a reverse painting on glass among my 2001 September 11 series.  At the time of working on these glass paintings, I thought “Night Fire” was important to portray this terrible day in the history of the United States.  Now it feels as though I painted a rape in progress.  Warfare has been going on as long as mankind has been around, but to what end?  What will ever be gained is so far beyond me it’s crazy, and yet I still feel justified in agreeing with the recent decisions of President Trump in the bombing of Afghanistan.  Chemical warfare in Syria was treated with cruise missiles, however there is speculation as to how many tons of it Syria still has in reserve!  There may have been another way to handle it, but I can’t think how.

I do not believe any one in the world can get along with every other person, but can they not just agree to disagree?  Do people feel a need to regress into barbarians, or was there a time when goodness and mercy were more predominant before “Night Fire”.  That was more of a utopian thought than I am familiar with, normally.  Please don’t think I am unaware; my head is not in the clouds.  But is there not a possibility of making this a better world for our children and grand children to live in?  And yes, this world does have to be shaped into something better, it will not just ‘happen’, but first we must grow.

It’s hard to focus on my reverse painting on glass with all of this taking place, but to see more of my glass painting and work like “Night Light”, please go to

  • Night Light

    Night Light

“Night Light”, a reverse painting on glass was painted as it might have been seen through a window, hence the reason for the window sash.  Maybe the window was in a warehouse, an apartment, or nearby vacant building, but this is the 2001 September 11  scene that would have been displayed through the window on that dreadful evening.

In night light of the much more recent chemical warfare in Syria, and bombing in Afghanistan, I find the events all to be on the same level.  What on earth is this world coming to?  The disrespect for fellow human beings seems to be at an all time high point, in fact it seems even worse than that.  Even self respect is becoming non-existent, sadder yet. And what about dignity?  Where has that gone?  There have only been rare sightings of that lately.  But maybe the lack of self respect and dignity is where the lack of regard for others begins.  Really, if you can’t even seek respect for yourself, what reason could there be to seek respect  in others?  If one could not be dignified, how would they be able to recognize that quality in others.  Still though, it can be seen daily in any news paper printed, how people are continually doing things that would cause a mother or father to be shamed.  But they are no longer shamed because they can make believe that they didn’t raise the child to do those things.  I really wish I didn’t have to witness it on a first hand basis.  The fact remains that they did raise the child to do what ever he or she wanted to do.  They didn’t raise them not to do those things is where the problem enters into night light.  I do know there was a double negative in there.

I should probably worry less about chemical warfare, bombing and injustices in the world, and more about my reverse painting on glass.  To see more of my work, like “Night Light” please go to

  • Eagles Painted in Reverse on Glass

    Avian Art

    Eagle Over Lake Delta

Some of my Eagles Painted in Reverse on Glass are larger than others. but they are all of the Bald Eagle species as yet.  The reason for this I am sure, is because they are the only species of eagle in this part of New York that has been reintroduced to the area.

    Avian Art

    Nesting Eagle

The first time I saw one, one of my daughters did not believe me.  So I painted it.  I am sure she still did not believe me, but I felt better.  About two years later it became common knowledge they were thriving locally.

    Avian Art

    Eagle Over Lake Delta

Last year an eagle couple built a nest just a few miles from home, but there were too many fans for those modest raptors, so they moved out.  You see, apparently someone was bothering them with a drone, and I heard the male eagle had been injured.  I do hope the eagle was able to eat the drone first.  I do not understand why people feel the need to bother north American wildlife.

When our oldest grandson graduated and was about to go in the USMC, he told my daughter and son-in-law that what he wanted was one of my Eagles Painted in Reverse on Glass, in red, white and blue.   So that was his gift from Grandma.  It would be great if all teens were so easy to please with avian art.
